Sometimes a restaurant simply feels right. Despite being barely a year old, Postino Osteria – part of Alessandro Pavoni’s Italian empire, which includes Ormeggio at The Spit and a’Mare – is one of those restaurants. 

"With a sharp eye on pursing wines of certain style and chic reputation, this is a very prescribed wine list. Choosing specific wines from mainly regions across Italy, but also France, Portugal, Germany, New Zealand - and a few from boutique Australian producers - it presents shining examples of varieties and certain styles."

The hospitality is Italian, the four-course sharing menu is less than $80 a head, and there are three different spots for dining outdoors. All that, and a chance of meatballs.

As such, a significant number of tables are reserved for walk-ins, encouraging locals to swing in for traditional, low-key fare from all regions of Italy like Milanese meatballs, Aquna Sustainable Murray Cod whipped baccala style with polenta chips, and Blackmore Wagyu tonnato.
